1. Battery selection and maintenance
Try to choose batteries with high energy, long lifespan, low memory effect, and environmentally friendly.
1. Operating temperature: -20°C to 60°C;
2. When replacing the battery, please check if the walkie-talkie is turned off. Do not insert or remove the battery while the walkie-talkie is on;
3. If the battery needs to be stored for a long time, please pre-charge it to about 50% capacity to help prevent performance degradation;
4. For the first three charges, try to charge for a full 16 hours to reduce memory effect; subsequent charging time can be around 10 hours;
5. The battery can generally last about 8 hours under a 5-5-90 usage condition (5% transmitting signal, 5% receiving signal, 90% standby), but this varies based on battery capacity, quality, and usage frequency.
6. The lifespan of a battery is generally measured by the number of charge-discharge cycles, but different brands have different standards for walkie-talkie batteries; for example, MOTO batteries have a minimum cycle count of 300.
7. For general nickel-hydride and nickel-cadmium batteries, it is essential to ensure that the walkie-talkie battery is completely used up before each charge (i.e., it cannot transmit normally when pressing the PTT button). Otherwise, it will cause memory effect and significantly shorten the battery's lifespan.
2. Communication distance
The longest communication distance for professional devices in flat and unobstructed areas can reach 3-5 kilometers. However, radio wave transmission can be affected by obstacles (such as buildings and trees), and various external factors often weaken the signal, causing variations in communication range. When network support is available, the communication distance of walkie-talkies can reach several dozen kilometers.
3. Frequency point selection
One category is the 150MHz band, and another is the 400MHz band. It is recommended to purchase products in the 400MHz band because walkie-talkies operating at this frequency can have shorter or thinner antennas due to the higher frequency, making them more aesthetically pleasing and convenient to use. Additionally, in Beijing, the 150MHz band experiences significant interference that severely affects communication distance; under the same power conditions, the actual communication distance of 400MHz devices is superior to that of 150MHz devices.
4. Display screen
Some professional walkie-talkies come with LCD displays while others do not; this does not necessarily mean that those with LCD displays are of higher quality. LCDs are prone to breakage and moisture damage, so some walkie-talkies designed for harsh environments intentionally do not use LCD screens for displaying information, such as the MOTOROLA GP328plus, which is considered a high-end device despite lacking an LCD screen.
5. Calling function
In cases where there is network support (i.e., setting up relay stations), some walkie-talkies can achieve calling functions. However, if it is just regular communication between units, calling functions cannot be realized.
6. Radiation and antenna
Keep the antenna at a distance of 5 to 7 centimeters from the body during communication to reduce radiation exposure and try not to use exposed antennas.
